WELTEVREDEN PARK CHURCH OF CHRIST
Greetings to all readers
If you find yourself reading the contents of this page then you are definitely on the right path. We hope to provide you with resourceful information about our spiritual family at Weltevreden Park Church of Christ (WCOC), our ministry and most importantly how to enter a relationship with the Lord through the understanding and acceptance of the Gospel.
We are a spiritual family. Different races, different nationalities, different languages, different ages, but made one in Christ Jesus. We don’t have it all figured out yet, but we strive daily to be more and more like Christ. We believe in the Bible and the Bible alone as the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and as our authority in our congregation and Church at large. We love God and so we love God's people. When you visit us, expect handshakes, hugs, conversation and fellowship with one another. You are welcome to sit anywhere you feel comfortable and participate in our worship to the Lord.
At Weltevreden Park Church of Christ we have elders, deacons and a preacher who according to the scripture are men responsible for work within the Church. Should you require their attention at any time, feel free to ask anyone and you can be taken to them. It is our desire to make you feel at home. Feel free to ask any questions and we will be glad to provide you with information and clarity you may need.
WORSHIP
We believe that the purpose of our assembling as a church is to praise and glorify God and also to encourage one another in the faith while we wait for the return of our Lord Jesus (Hebrews 10:25-26). We gather together on every 1st day of the week for worship. At Weltevreden Park Church of Christ, our worship includes singing, praying, reading and studying of the Scripture, participation in the Lord’s Table and a lesson (sermon). The Bible is the authority of our faith and worship.
SINGING
At Weltevreden Park Church of Christ, we love to sing and praise the Lord in psalms and hymns (in different languages). In our Worship we sing acapella without the accompaniment of any instruments. Our study of Scripture (Ephesians 5:19) and the History of the early Church has led us to understand and believe that this is the way in which we can best praise the Lord in song as a Church. Our singing is intended to build each other up and serve as an offering to God.
LORD'S SUPPER/COMMUNION
On every first day of the week we break bread and drink of the fruit of the vine in remembrance of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Lord's Supper is an integral part of our worship service. We partake of the Lord’s Supper on a weekly basis for the purpose of being often reminded of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Our study and understanding of Scripture (Acts 20:7) has led us to believe and uphold the example given to us both in scripture and from the 1st century Church.
The Lords supper as we believe in the Church is for the Christians, who in this act of worship remember and honour the covenant we have with our God through baptism. Paul in (1 Corinthians 11:23-27) teaches about the Lord’s Supper and emphasizes that he received the instruction from the Lord. The emblems partaken at Weltevreden Church of Christ are the unleavened bread and grape juice. The bread reminds us of the body of Jesus on the cross and the grape juice reminds us of the blood that He shed for us. The purpose is for us to remember the life of Jesus that was sacrificed for us on the cross.
PRAYER
We believe in the power of Prayer. Prayer is the one thing that makes a difference in everything. We invite and encourage you to join us in prayer in our worship service. We believe in praying for one another and thus we have a time for prayer requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving, together as a church. You are welcome to contact us or write us a note and we will make sure to pray with you. Prayer changes people and we encourage you to participate with us as we pray in our worship service. If you would like we also encourage you to make use of our prayer corner on the web. There you will be able to share personal and public prayer requests.
(James 5:6 – Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed)
OFFERING
Each week we take a collection for the needs of the church (1 Corinthians 16:2). If you are visiting with us we do not intend for you to give, but this is a time for our members to give to the Lord from their monetary possessions. Of course each week we also give of our time and our life to God. Feel perfectly comfortable in just passing the collection plate on down the row.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our Church and hopefully you have found enough information to actually inspire you to visit us.
We hope to see you soon.
